The Club is situated on the banks of the Richmond River, in the picturesque NSW Far North Coast town of Ballina.
We are an integral part of Ballina’s sporting and recreational community. Mike Wiley won NSW Coach of the year in 2023 for his innovative skiff training program.
The club is a major contributor to tourism, in the Ballina Shire. Our annual Regattas draw visitors to Ballina from right across Australia. Other activities the club has been part of include Australia Day sail pasts, and any special celebrations related to the river.
The Rowing members of the club are an active group with a large variety of rowing craft, from six-person sculls, to small one-person kayaks. The rowers can be seen enjoying the river, on most mornings.
The Club encourages, and supports, both racing, and social sailing.
Many of our members compete at the highest racing level. Our members include current, and past, State and National champions, in a number of classes. Several past and present members have competed in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
Our fleet of Bic training skiffs has introduced a large number of Juniors to the joy of sailing during our Junior Sail training program. Adult and family training is available using the Pacer dinghies.
High Performance Sail Trainer, Michael Wiley, runs a very innovative and successful program. He introduces young adults, many of whom have never sailed before, to High Performance Skiff sailing.
Social Sailing events are also part of the Club’s activities. Sailing trips to Wardell pub for lunch, and fun Pirates days, are occasional occurrences.
The club consists of large fleets of Catamarans, Trailer Sailers, High Performance Skiffs, and Dinghies.
While our competition is at a very high standard, we are also a very relaxed and friendly club. We use a handicap system with our racing. So everyone is in with a chance, each race day. It’s not uncommon to have a relatively inexperienced sailor, with an inexpensive boat, beat a top-class sailor in a $30,000 state-of-the art racing machine.
We welcome new members. Anyone interested in the club is encouraged to drop down any Sunday, or ring or email.
